Nestled in the heart of Houston's Hermann Park, Miller Outdoor Theatre has been a beacon of free, high-quality entertainment for over a century. Since its inception in 1923, the theatre has evolved from a modest bandstand into a premier venue, offering a diverse array of performances that reflect the rich cultural tapestry of the city.

A Century of Cultural Enrichment

The theatre's origins trace back to 1923, when it was established as the Miller Memorial Theatre, named in honor of Jesse Wright Miller, a mining engineer and cotton broker who bequeathed land to the city for cultural purposes.Designed by architect William Ward Watkin, the original structure featured an amphitheater surrounded by twenty Corinthian-style limestone columns, setting the stage for a legacy of artistic excellence .

Over the decades, Miller Outdoor Theatre has hosted a plethora of iconic performances. Notably, in 1976, original cast members of "Saturday Night Live," including John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd, graced the stage. In 1979, the Houston Symphony welcomed Big Bird for a memorable concert, and in 1982, Peter Frampton rocked the venue during his "The Art of Control" tour. Miller Outdoor Theatre
